DESCRIPTION:Over the course of an adrenaline-filled weekend\, filmmaking teams compete to write\, shoot\, and edit a short horror film based a provided line of dialogue and a given prop. The films will be screened online on PRIMAA's Youtube page. \nAll participants will be entered into a draw for various participation prizes. PRIMAA will be handing out two award titles for Judges’ and Audience’s Choice\, but the real prize will be bragging rights. \n6 pm Friday Oct. 13\, 2023 until 6 pm\, Sunday Oct. 15\, 2023 \nALL FILMS must be handed in by 6 pm on Sunday to qualify.  \nENTRY FEE\nTeam Registration Fee - $30 \nOnly one fee is required per team. Course will include guest presenters who will present their projects (including the evolution of the project\, pitch material\, showing a short clip\, and sharing overall budget and finance strategy) followed by a Q and A. Case studies will include low budget feature film\, web series\, dramatic short\, documentary\, and animation. \nAbout Ava Karvonen:\nAva Karvonen is multi-platform producer and the founder of Edmonton’s Reel Girls Media. She has produced and executive produced more than 200 hours of content for the global market including TV\, web and mobile. Her work has seen more than 90 worldwide screenings and been internationally recognized with more than 45 awards. \nAva has mentored 33 TELUS Storyhive teams\, executive produced the web series How to Learn Anything (now in production on Season 3)\, and is in development on a feature film project supported by the Harold Greenberg Fund with writer/director Anne Wheeler and producer Michelle Morris (Red Snow). She recently produced the critically acclaimed feature documentary\, Finding Bobbi\, that tells the story of an actor who returns to stage as a woman in the iconic role of Aunt Eller in an LGBTQ+ interpretation of Oklahoma! 20 years after last performing on stage as a man. Her credits include producing six series\, twelve hour-long documentaries\, more than 150 webisodes and podcasts\, animation\, games\, and an online companion to an animated TV series where the audience uses digital assets from the series to create their own comics and stories. In addition to producing\, Ava also writes and directs. She directed two seasons of Chaos and Courage for APTN; was one of the directors on the CBC series Keeping Canada Alive; wrote and directed The Lie Detective; directed and produced Homefront (a project that took her to Afghanistan); and directed Seeds of Change (taking her to China). \nAva believes in giving back to her community. Ava has been teaching credit and non-credit courses for NAIT\, FAVA\, MacEwan\, and Raindance. She has also helped develop industry policy while serving for the past 20 plus years on the boards of the Edmonton Arts Council\, AMPIA\, Alberta Foundation for the Arts\, Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC)\, and DOC AB. SUMMARY:Audio Basics For Filmmakers
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be held Online via Zoom. \nWe will cover audio basics from on set audio capture through to final delivery. We’ll discuss mics\, audio recorders\, audio formats and levels\, DAW software\, working with OMF/AAF\nfiles\, dialogue clean up/editing and syncing\, mixing basics\, delivery specs and formats. \nThe interactive workshop will happen online via Zoom. Chris will present material and then provide demonstrations using industry standard audio software. Students may supply audio files or OMF/AAF files from any recent project they have been working on and Chris will demonstrate his techniques/workflow for all in the workshop to observe. \nStudents should deliver any files in advance so Chris can have them downloaded and prepped for presentation. Software demonstrations will be done in Pro Tools\, Digital Performer\, and 3rd party plugins such as Izotope’s RX. Demos may also be done in Davinci Resolve/Fairlight for those looking for an all in one (video and audio) solution that is free. \nAudacity could also be demoed if students desired it. Techniques shown in Pro Tools/Izotope RX can be appliedin any DAW. \nABOUT CHRIS MCINTYRE\nChris McIntyre is a musician\, composer\, audio engineer/producer\, and teacher\, working out of his studio in Grande Prairie\, Alberta\, Canada. Chris earned a Bachelor of Music from Brandon University\, and has worked professionally as a musician and engineer in numerous roles.\n\nHe has been working regularly in theworld of video as a music composer and post audio engineer. Recent projects include composing the score for the series “​Life XP​“\, the score for the documentary “​A Typical Heart​“\, and the score for the short film “​ZANDI​.”\nChris also creates music for corporate and commercial video work. A recent example is a ​commercial​ for the City of Grande Prairie created by The Distillery Film Company\, which Chris created the music for. In addition to composing\, Chris has been doing arrangement work for Broadway Live Broadway for their recent dramatic productions of The Hunchback Of Notre Dame and Anastasia.\n\nIn addition to the role of composer\, Chris has taken on audio duties for many film projects ranging from on set audio capture\, ADR and dialogue work\, VO engineer\, audio editor and re-recording mixer.\nREGISTER HERE

DESCRIPTION:With COVID forcing people into social isolation\, we can't gather together in the usual way to make films. We're hoping the film bug is buzzing in your ear\, because we've tailored our latest film challenge to these trying times - make way\, Frantic and Frightening48\, here comes... \nThe Pocket Frantic! \nEleven (count 'em)\, that's right - ELEVEN - days to write\, shoot\, edit\, and submit your film. Plenty of time to fit into nearly any schedule! \nWhat's the catch\, you ask? Why\, the device nearly everyone carries around in their pocket is what you have to film your footage with (your cell phone\, not your bank card.) \nAND\, because we would like everyone to do this safely\, we ask that you do this challenge with the people that are already in your social bubbles - your family\, your work-family\, your play-family\, the imaginary family you keep under your pillow (so they can sing you to sleep)... you get the idea. Small groups following the current social distancing rules so we can all keep doing what we love! \nTeams of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.
